Scaff card refreshers- POLL

Hey my first poll so bare with me.
Scaffold card refreshers? good for the game or bad?

Personally, its bad.
Alot of scaffs out there refuse to even get a card due to costs, which seem to increase year after year.

Cards dont make a scaffolder, all they do is provide limited experience whist on the course, a necessity due to insurance companies requiring an employer to show they have qualified lads. But it dont make one man better at the job then the other. That only comes from years of plying your trade.

Is this not yet another money making ploy?
People dont forget to scaffold until they sit a refresher, they know before they even turn up, mostly.

Who thinks what?
Ofcourse, seeing the standards of conversation here (like that doyle vancouver and the other soft lads) i dont expect too much, but try to be honest eh?

It would be a good thing. However they should be free. This would give Mosley and his cronies an opportunity to put something back into an industry from which they have already taken so much.

Why do you need to refresh something you do every day in life ?

If you wish to keep people up to date with current health and safety then all you have to do is either post or email a news letter to all card holders letting them know the changes

I am sure we all know people with CISRS cards who couldn't scaffold my bell end.I get regular reports from guys on big projects like the Shetlands for example saying that it is full of guys with advanced cards who couldn't put up a bed.
What I would propose is after a year an independent group of scaffs with years of experience assess those who have been given CISRS cards the year before. If the consensus is that an individual doesn't have a clue the question then can be asked of the training schools.
Sort of an independent audit of the training schools.

i will go with phill on this one as with all the other 20,000 plus scaffolders that dont use this forum just cos some scaffolders are olde school dosent mean they dont work safe you are your own safety officer wake up smell the roses its all about money other peoples money!! the only thing i will agree with being olde school is a harness they do save lifes but there only needed when there needed i would rather a scaffolder thats been in the game 20yrs with no ticket than a scaffolder with a gold card thats just started the only gold card scaffolders that have earnte there tickets are the ones that have learnte the game

All these kids coming out with gold cards are all jokers, been doing the job for 5mins and think they can scaffold the world, well they can go join the back of a very long queue and wait to be seen. Cos in my oppinion you should have at least 10yrs under your belt before your considered to attempt your gold card. Now dont get me wrong i know advanced guys with 15+ yrs ex and thay couldn't run a ring round a house if there life depended on it, but i'd say 90% of the guys i know could do droppers, hangers, temp roofs and flying shores all without drawings, now there what i call old school scaffs and im fortunate enough to have been taught that way.
Bit of advice i was given when first starting in this game.......

You can kid some of the people some of the time.....but you cant kid all of the people all of the time.

unfortunately haverspanner the cisrs tickets will just keep flying out the trainning centres as one instructor told me candidates will never fail as it makes the instructor look bad so there just get a pass not saying all centres are the same!!! the centre i was at had freelance instructors you dont pass the instructor hasnt done hes job right so you pass!!!! as for ruff mara how ruff is ruff:laugh: hope that thanks marra got off you setters wasnt aimed at me:laugh: cos you and mr green shared some exsperience with me :laugh:

Nice to read a respectable thread sc@ffolder after all the derogatory remarks we have tolerated this weekend unfortunately with the climate we are in its all about having tickets and I do agree the ticket doesn't make the scaffolder but most companies are running scared in case there is an accident and if the man doesn't have the card that's required there is plenty of vulture no win no fee solicitors out there that will exploit this and either su the company or the scaffolder and I cannot see this getting better but deteriorating further into organised chaos until it becomes a situation where as the scaffolder will be scared to do his daily duties

make you right steelcitycowboy its already starting to happen with the scaffold inspections even when a structure is perfect some are worried about sighning off the insurance and no win no fee is a defenate contribution to it all dont no how these small firms survive with all this extra trainning
