I was reading a few months ago that SGB , Harsco were closing down .

Is it true ?

Would be a shame i worked on there years ago and did some really good work , work you dont see so much off any more .

Even the amount of stock they would be carrying , where would it go ?

Harsco are a huge American Corporation who operate in over 50 countries and have an annual turnover counted in $Billions.

As we all know they bought SGB worldwide some years ago, although the UK contract scaffolding division has been losing money for some time now.

I wouldn't be suprised if they wound up their contract scaffolding operations here in the UK in the next year or two and concentrated on their more profitable concerns.

SGB used to be a great scaffolding company - But it's dead now.

Had a phone call couple of weeks ago offering estimator's job in grimbsy but knocked it back. They told me there wanted to get back to the old days and hopefully have as many power stations etc as possible by 2014. There are getting the backing from the USA

That's interesting mate.

We're getting a different vibe in London.

It will be interesting to see what happens.

Like i was saying they are back by the USA part of the company so dont really think they would have bought the company to close it down its not like it makes and differance to them over there.
But time will tell mate

cherrypicking springs to mind they will never become wot they once were rip b&p to bloody heavy to use now anyway good money goodtimes goodmemories

Since SGB was founded, not sure but probably the 20's or 30's I think it has been bought out a few times. I think Mowlams owned it at one time, but always kept the name. When Harsco took it over they kept the name for a few years and now seemed to have dropped it, seems strange, why drop a brand name.

You're right about Mowlem Brandy, that's who put me scaffolding around 88 and they had SGB then.

They bought the company about 10 years ago!

The UK contract scaffolding division is only a tiny percentage of the old SGB's turnover and they have much bigger concerns these days in formwork/hire & sales etc. Most of these divisions are still trading at a profit - Unlike their contract scaffolding operations.

There's only so long they'll keep flogging a dead horse for.

But like you said, time will tell mate.

they basically want to set up an infastructure partnership with the big blue chip companys ie the massive jobs, the form work side is doing the bizz but they have to a degree pulled out of the street as harsco dont see this as there specialist sector.they want to supply the full package on multi million pound jobs, the first exercise at it failed terribly VICTORIA station that debacle cost the whole board there job,but they are starting two massive jobs in and around london next week these will be make or break stuff they say.ps the b+p has never had an equal yet best fitting i ever used.

Agree Celticbhoy on your opinion of the B+P, the most versatile fit for purpose fitting of them all.

Yeah agreed.

I also think that the B&P is a great fitting - although was a bit heavy when doing rope work.
