London-based AGS Scaffolding has been placed in the hands of administrators.

The Leyton firm, which recently boasted it biggest scaffolding job worth £3m for the Savoy revamp, is now being run by London accountancy specialist SFP.

AGS built up a good reputation in London and the South East over 15 years offering scaffolding services to the building, civil engineering and entertainment industries.

In that time it worked on many major landmark buildings in the capital, including museum Tate Modern and the Savoy Hotel refit.

A source in the industry told the Enquirer: “With the way things are it takes just one bad paying job to cause problems. But its a big surprise that a firm like AGS has run into trouble.

“We understand that another company is in talks with the administrators to buy the assets of the firm, but nobody has heard anything more.”

Yeah I remember Andy - Nice bloke, although I wouldn't want to have a row with him. He looked a bit like Chewbacca!

He was Managing Director at Trad back in the 90's, although Hayden Smith owned the company.

He went and set up AGS and took a few of the top fella's on Trad with him - Johnny Newman, Jesus etc.

I haven't seen him in years but AGS have still got a fair few jobs up in Town.

Ags are still trading just running under a slightly adapted company name so i hear.
Still seem to be putting a lot of work up round the city and west end tho.
But are a badly run outfit from what I am told.
Lost all there good blokes, and are trying to make blokes do price work for way below the normal rates!
£20 a square up and £10 down, no extra money after a certain height regardless of height of job,and even heard monoflex and netting was included:sick:
**** that no wonder they are loosing men!
Good Scaffolders good standard of work, but bad management has lost them a few big contractors of late, a good friend of mine was on there and said it had been coming for ages with the way it was run by the wrong person and to many overheads!
Andy Green stepped down due to illness a few years back and basically let the wrong person run the firm, was told he has had a leg amputated aswell.

John Newman started up NF scaffolding Newman + Frost (stone mason)
not National Front as some reffered it to :D
They went under a while back now and have no Idea where he is now.
Although before my mate left AGS he used to go on about how good the firm was when John Newman was running it until he got caught out having Andy over for a few quid.
His words to me were avoid them like the plague, they have gone from being a great firm to work for, to absolutely **** and before long they will go under again whilst its run by the wrong bloke!
He told me they are buying work at the min, going in so low its not even worth it, hence why there blokes are being pushed to the limits for **** money and he is happily plodding along on day rate on another firm.

I was on there for 8 years run some good jobs swith good blokes. Glad I left when I did. Would avoid working for them if poss
