Sanofi to shut Fawdon plant with loss of 400 jobs
by Iain LaingMar 14 2012
DRUGS giant Sanofi today announced it will shut its Newcastle factory with the loss of more than 400 jobs.
The French company said it planned to close the plant in 2015 as it moves to focus its business more on the European market.
Staff at the site in Edgefield Avenue, Fawdon, were today in discussions with management and the Unite union about the proposed closure and redundancy programme.
Sanofi ran a plant in Alnwick, Northumberland, until two years ago when it sold the site - which employed 140 staff - to American firm Covance.
