News - RIDDOR reporting change

As of 6 April 2012, RIDDOR’s over-three-day injury reporting requirement has changed. The trigger point has increased from over three days’ to over seven days’ incapacitation (not counting the day on which the accident happened).

I think the three day rule has been changed to reduce un-warranted paperwork!

Accident happens on a Thursday, you only need Friday off back to work Monday still reportable due to the weekend.

By making it a week then accidents that need reporting are under the new Riddor requirements.

Thats how I see it :wondering:

well non working days dont count, cut down on paperwork yes for us, not for the leading authorities we do that for them, they just gather statistics. But that's were it probably lays, lets bring politics into it and if we cant vastly improve the statistics through countless measures, then lets widen the goal posts. Just my opinion, Health and Safety has become a multi million industry, its got to be shown to be working. Now with the 4 day increase there be less re portables, better AFRs and less recorded lost days, all will look good on the statistics in time. Bit like the unemployment figures:evil:

I'm not so sure Poledancer. As ever I may be very wrong but a couple of weeks back I was at a meeting with an employment specialist who inferred that a few of the more negative points off employment law were being relaxed due to a mixture of government change and our economic climate.

The increased reportable time may highlight the more serious incidents and thus invoke a more measured Accident Investigation to be conducted...

I am not implying that a three day reportable accident is minor, indeed, I have had a hangover longer than that...

Took this from a Riddor document.

The lost time is '(not counting the day of the accident but including weekends and rest days). '

This has always been the case & is the main reason for the change.

We have heard a lot about Lord Youngs report on this forum for what seems like a long time now and I for one welcome any changes of that ilk.
