A Scaffolding and Boxing Legend has passed away
John Cowboy McCormack passed away on Friday. He was a well known Scaffolder from Glasgow who worked offshore when men were men,and north sea tiger had to earn their stripes.
He was also a very good boxer who i beleive fought in the olympics although i dont know too much on that front.

My condolences to the family and friends of John Cowboy McCormack

Always sad to here of the demise of an Old School scaff R I P

I had the good fortune of working with John in the Forties Field ( OMISCO ) in the 80's, we worked in the same squad and shared the same cabin for 6 months, I was the only Aberdonian onboard all the other Scaffs were Glasgow Men, John took me under his wing, I'll never forget that, needless to say that there was always a seat in the front row of the crowded cinema of an evening LOL. John used to tell me stories about when the KGB used to follow him when he Boxed in the Olympics and when the Krays tried to ply him with Champers on a pre-fight night ( think he was fighting Terry Downs ), John, could tell you a thing or two...John, surprisingly for a Boxer had boyish and finely chiselled featured, probably because nobody stayed conscious long enough to lay a glove on the Big Man, a true Gentleman and great at Man Management, I never heard his raise his voice, one telling was quite sufficient...

Sincere condolences to the Family at their time of loss...

Nice 1 Garry. It's good when you work n get on with people like that. I bet you've got more good stories. Sounds like a bit of a legend. Was on the forties field in the 80s but didn't get the pleasure of working with the big man himself.

hi old scaff, i worked offshore in the 80s 90s on loads of rigs, worked with a lot of scaffs from glasgow. one scaff who really stands out was big jimmy plunkett. what a laugh could tell a few tales old jimmy. davy alex from middlesbrough

THE BIG MAN JIMMY PLUNKETT COULD HAVE HIS OWN SUB FORUM
young jimmy is offshore and Chris is in Australia as far as i know.
Jimmy has retired from Scaffolding been driving Hospital Taxis for a wee while.
