A couple of questions?? Can you use irish scaffolding cards on a UK site? And if someone has done a part 2 course but not the assessment, can they be a scaffold supervisor basically overlook all scaffold on a site sign jobs off etc????

No and no mate. Well they can't sign off scaff tags etc unless they've done an scaffold inspection course. They could supervise but again, these days they'd have to have done the CISRS supervisor course or SSSTS.

Didn't think so and il take your advice even tho we got off on a bad foot I do believe you know your stuff. This irish advanced scaffolder started with us and he's getting paid advanced money and as he's all the gear no idea a few of the boys arnt happy.. cheers for the reply.

Had a similar situation recently on a big job we had in Glasgow city centre for an Irish contractor. We were coming back onto the job and finding it had been altered (badly) and when I questioned the site manager he told me it was alright as one of his men was an advanced scaffolder. When I asked if his qualification was from the Republic of Ireland and he replied yes, he wasn't too chuffed when I told him his man's card wasn't worth a f@ck in the UK and he would be getting charged day works for us to rectify the scaffold alterations. He told me he'd be looking into it as he believed he was in the right. Needless to say, he never came back to me about it. ;)

You don't need a cisrs card to scaffold in the UK, as long as you can prove competence then you are ok to turn a spanner.

Any site which uses the card system is unlikely to accept a trainee scaffolder as the chargehand, as the system does not recommend it. Once a part 2 is done, the scaffolder is still a trainee and holds a red trainee card still, until the assessment is done and they get a blue card.

I take your point and I agree with you. My thoughts on the CISRS cartel are well documented on here but name me a Main Contractor/site where anything other than a CISRS card is acceptable in modern times in the UK.

When I first started no one had tickets, but they could all scaffold. Now everyone's got tickets and they can't scaffold. Something's not quite right there is it, I rest my case 🙏🏻

the card do not maketh the man
but for all its faults cisrs can and will be accepted as proof of training if anything does go wrong.
sadly cisrs and the tg is seen by the HSE as BEST PRACTICE so you eigther buy into or keep your fingers crossed;)

You dont need to hold a previous scaffold qualification to gain ur supervisors card & within the course you'll also gain the basic inspection cert....to answer your question.
no a irish scaff tckt is not recognised within the cirsrs scheme as bonefide trainging & as such unlike a regonised basic or advance ticket does not allow him ti tag or inspect or handover anything
