one of our lorries got stopped yesterday and was told we could not have 21's hanging over the back and got done £100 because they could pull the 21 off the lorry. When we asked what to do about the overhang was told to get a longer lorry. I have gone through legislation and cannot find anywhere where is states you cannot have an overhanging load. Thoughts anyone.

The lorry is a 7.5t Mitsubishi Canter and if I have read lorry details right the cab and chassis weight total 2.360t meaning you can put over 4t of gear on the butt can anyone confirm this

sorry 5t not 4t

Depending where you are, but now they require back boards on wagons to stop it being classed as a loose load

Just put a strap across the rear of the tube or fix an extended tail board.

Your safest bet is to go to your local weigh bridge with no load but a full tank, your 3 heaviest men and a cab full of takeaway boxes, empty cans, old clothes etc etc and you'll know exactly what weight you can carry on each axle.

The legislation for tail gates on the back of trucks is now compulsory ,however the legal limit of overhang unmarked is 1.mtr secured.
On the near and offside rear just add a secure board either side swiftly and secure your overhang with a ratchet strap job done to all scaffold companies out there an 8ft board secured on the rear of your truck is more than adequate and classed as a tailgate and there's nothing vosa can do about it so don't be thinking you have to change your trucks.
As the 100 sheets swifty you may go through a an appeals procedure my advice take it on the chin tool box talk required to all explain the law get caught you pay not us the toolbox talk on secured loads covers your arse and no employee can have you for unlawful deductions of earnings life's a batch but if the lads don't listen they take the chance they pay if caught merry Christmas swifty scc,

Just out of interest how long is the body of the truck ?
I have seen a few lorrys that have a 16 ,17 foot body which means a 4/5 foot over Hang.

R8 maximus if you have a 17ft body and the overhang exceeds 1.mtr this is what we did we had a fabricator make us a triangular red an white warning sign with a sleeve welded to it this covers you legally and it worked a treat
