Pendennis Shipyard fined over apprentice's fall
Pendennis is believed to be one of the world's leading "superyacht" builders A shipyard in Cornwall has been ordered to pay more than £12,000 in fines and costs after an apprentice was injured.
The 19-year-old suffered knee injuries after falling about 6ft (2m) off scaffolding not properly secured at the Pendennis yard in Falmouth last year, Truro Magistrates' Court was told.
It left him needing physiotherapy, the Health and Safety Executive which brought the prosecution said.
The firm admitted a safety offence and was fined £6,000, plus £6,200 costs.
The court heard that the apprentice was working in a dry dock to clear plastic tenting which had been used to enclose a boat.
Scaffolding boards he standing was on tipped, causing him to fall to the dock floor.
