hope someone can help here anybody any idea how much a company charges to tag a job independently or do the charge by the hour or by the size of the job thanks in advance boyz
All our jobs include the cost of a weekly inspection plus a tags sign ,
It's what our customers want in the price .
But if it's indendent the it would have to include time plus a profit ,
Most firms would want around 4 hours per site visit
When Harsco took over the tagging on Crossrail, they were charging £60 per tag. It's not just a case of signing the tag (though I realise this happens in most cases), the job should be checked over to make sure nothing has changed since the last inspection.
As usual, it would depend on a lot of factors. If it's a single tag on a smallish job, then you would need to charge quite a bit more than £60 a time plus any travel expenses. If it was multiple tags on the same site, then £60 could be just the ticket. You really just have to justify your time and any expenses including indemnity insurance. Don't under sell yourself short, they usually want any inspector to reduce their own liability, so make sure they pay for the privilege.
Most of the job specs we get these days request that you do the weekly inspections and sign the tags ,
Trouble is if you start adding that into the price you don't be long out pricing yourself .
It's the same as hire , there are still a lot of firms not charging for hire to get the job ,
Which is all good if you have a yard full of kit doing nothing but not so good if you have to start buying or hiring .
Yes, all very true, and if that's what you have to do to win the work, then it's tough but necessary to remain competitive. I won't need to tell you though, that there comes a time when you have to draw the line. The last firm I was on charged £350 a time.
I have assumed that the original OP is not supplying any material, merely inspecting others work, I could be wrong though.
yeh just inspection mt, whats indemnity insurance? i suppose ud be advised to get this if you were a self employed tag man? cheers again lads all good points
As a self employed tag man, professional indemnity insurance is a must. Anyone can inspect and tag a job, your main role is to carry at least some of the can should an incident occur.
