I have used ladders for years to paint my house and do general maintenance but I am now 67 and I want to feel safer at height say 7 metres height for gable ends. I also have a conservatory that needs spanning and a single storey utility room attached to one of the gables. I need to go up then inwards to the west gable.

I bought a steel tubed scaffolding tower some years ago but found it heavy to erect. I sold it on as it was only deteriorating in storage outside.

I am thinking of buying a lighter alloy tower system

There seem to be a lot on the DIY market Ebay etc!!

Can anyone give me advice on which towers are the best safest design to buy please?

Halo Peter. I think at your age you need to sell up and buy a bungalow mate.
Your first problem seems to be spanning the conservatory, in which case you probly need 2 towers to form a bridge. That would gve you first lift of say 3mtrs. now the remaining 4 meters needs to be got to. I would think it would be more cost effective to get a local company to put a proper scaffold up. Whats the cost of buying ally towers?? Not cheap,i'll bet.

towers

ok yes maybe I do.

the house which is all rendered needs painting every 15 years and the windows and conservatory is also wooden..

i lived here 28 yrs and I have always done it myself but beginning to think we need to move to get away from this maintenance liability.

thanks for taking the trouble replying

Peter

well Peter if you are going up there make it the last time, replace it all with UPVC and don't have the worry again mate

towers

her indoors won't allow that got to be sustainable materials!!

Pvc window are sustainable m8- take the green route & tell her they made outta recycled tesco carrier bags;)

All joking aside, this is the type of job that could very easily ruin the best planned retirement. I would get a quote from a handyman who wouldn't charge the earth but fit enough to do the job without too much trouble. It's either that or pay the scaffolder to do the job right and you still have to get up there to do the work yourself.

If you still feel like doing the whole thing yourself, make sure you get as good a tower as you can afford. A boss type or something very similar, but make sure you have all the component parts and none have excessive dents.

Just on the off chance are you from Hull? or is Hull just part of your nickname.
If you are in Hull i could come see what you require and where best to get it locally, would'nt cost you anything as i'm around hull everyday anyway. We are in the book if you want to call us
