because of people like ORAC working FOR £17 an hour and no digs it messin it up for others.
I hope I'm not alone when I say I found this post distasteful. Slagging off a working man prepared to travel at his own expense to put bread on the table,
Shame on you
Unfortunately agency work has become a necessary evil for many us unfortunate enough not able to play on the hallowed turf of a blue book site
However it can be lucrative if you now how to work the system
Personally I will not work for an agency that don't allow me to use my own choice of umbrella company for payment, a reputable agency shouldn't have a problem with this .
My own personal preference is
I-Paye - Home who operate a system where you become a PAYE Employee of the end client or agency having your NI stamp paid weekly and accruing holiday pay.
A weekly expense sheet is submitted along with receipts for digs, car parking ,public transport etc and a mileage allowance is also claimed for traveling to and from your home address to digs. also £25 per night subsistence and £5 per night for incidentals .
All the expenses mileage and subsistence along with the i-paye fee (around £30 depending on which option you go for) are added up and deducted from your gross , you then pay Tax and NI at the normal rates on the remainder .
To me the bottom line is the dollar in the bank at the end of the week and the reality of the situation is you end up paying around 12% of your gross in Tax and NI .
As ORAC says £17 per hr across the board is not a bad rate and I would agree. Lets do the math, 7 12hr shifts at £17 per hr = £1428 gross
£1428 - 12% = £1256.64 take home
