I am not Carol Vorderman but 15 quid an hour works out at 120 a day if you get paid the full 8 hours. So that's 600 quid a week before deductions. I am not up to speed with the UK tax and NI but let's say you lose 25% so you end up with 450 a week in your sky. Say your rent and utilities are 125 a week leaves 325. Then take away your transport and grub say 150 leaves 175 so not much left to cover a few pints and a gram on a Saturday.
Work to live springs to mind

That's what we do over here Fred.

Construction Industry Joint Council: Working Rule Agreement
The Construction Industry Joint Council (CIJC) Working Rule Agreement covers over 500,000 workers. It is the largest industrial agreement within the construction industry.

Most of the 500,000 workers are covered by the whole agreement and travel and fare rates. All 500,000 workers are covered by the minimum pay rates.

From January 2013, the accident and death benefits have been increased.

Latest pay deal (January 2013 - January 2014)
UCATT, Unite and the GMB agreed an improved pay offer on 22nd August 2012 following protracted pay talks. From Monday 7th January 2013, there will be a 2% increase on all basic pay rates.

The offer is a significant improvement on the 1.6% offered by the employers in June.

As part of the pay deal it has also been agreed that a working party will be established to consider introducing more appropriate rules for workers undertaking highway maintenance work and to review pay rates for crane operators and plate layers.

The CIJC will also introduce a new rule which will help to rid the industry of the problem of rolled up holiday pay.

Steve Murphy, General Secretary of UCATT, said: “This was the absolute minimum that construction workers were prepared to accept. Employers must understand that this is only the first step in addressing low pay.”
