North west scaffolder collapses with 50 job cuts

Aaron Morby | Thu 24th November | 8:30

Leading north west specialist contractor Grace Scaffolding Ltd has been placed in administration.

The firm employed around 48 staff operating out of a head office in Salford and branches in the Wirrall, Preston and Blackpool.

GSL was established more than 10 years ago and operated a fleet of 40 vehicles as well as carrying an extensive tube and fitting stockholding to handle large projects across the north west.

Joint Administrators’ Jeremy Woodside and Christopher Ratten of RSM Tenon Recovery in Manchester are trying to sell the business.

Its core jobs were in social housing refurbishment, private new-build and commercial refurbishment and new-build.

A shareholder disagreement at the company is understood to have meant it could not pay its debts.

The last set of accounts for October showed the contractor made a profit of £480,000 on sales of £2.4m.

In admistration because of a shareholders dispute, This dont sound right. 48+ staff out of work and possibly unpaid before Christmas.

480k profit and still goes to the wall, something doesn't add up, of course it could be me.:embarrest:

According to the post from Teeside they are racking up a 20% profit. In good times this would be good. We obviously do not have the full story regarding Liabilities. I wonder if the banks are calling in a loan!

Not sure Binthere but looks like greed to me. As you say, maybe better waiting for more information from someone more clued up than me.

All about the money , no doubt shareholder is ex wife or major investor that wants there money back

Administration is usually a form of protection when hmrc want there money , preserves the assetts

The lads affected should receive information from thier former employor as regards monies owed.

They should contact the administrators with any concerns or queeries

2nd time they have gone , from what I know they are bobbins ,dog 5hit dodging council work :(

They actually only made a net profit of 79 k up to oct 2010 and also how could they have 40 vehicles with 48 staff, even the yard cat must have had a van

Fuck1ng ba5tards started trading again within 1 hour of going into administration, cunt5 should not be allowed to get away with it

looks like it was all planned as the new company was registered a month before closing the old one....

And they can be picking up work even cheaper now with the 'liquidated' goods they may have aquired from the administrators.

easy for them run up big debts have all there gear valued at one fiths it real worth set up new company then walk away from there debts. The only people to profit from this are the directors and the administrators. Feel for the lads lossing money it shouldnt be allowed.

didnt Brian buy it back a few years ago after selling it for a tidy sum?

If it's just a phoenix company why are the boy's protesting, would they not also change hats?

Depends they would lose all there benifits from the privious firms like van and any bonus etc , and could be forced to take a lower pay scale to restart on the new firm.
