just found this forum & thought I'd say hi -anyone got any info about working offshore, just thinkin about it a the mo but any info would be great......

Welcome to the Site Bud---aye, there are a good few Offshore Scaffs here---what sort of infor you after M8---Survial Cources, Medicals, MIST, and associated Trade Training ???. Just Post what you want to discuss and your Bro Scaffs will respond...
 
cheers mate - only just started looking into it at the mo. Need to get booked on the survival course but don't fancy paying out £700 if there's no chance of getting on......
 
yeh... think I'll have to just go for it and keep my fingers crossed I get a job. Passed the medical so first step done. Whats the offshore course like - i've heard it's pretty intense - just thinking I should have done it 30 yrs ago when i first got in this game! :laugh:

The Survival Course is a peice of piss---underwater chopper escapes, smoke filled rooms ect, just another days work for a Scaff...WWWwwwooooooooooooooooooooooooooooosh.

Perhaps you should consider the UK and Norski + Dutch Sectors Survival, it widens your options for Work out with the UK Sector.

Ye the MIST is a comparitavley new requirement for Green Hands ( Offshore ), it is a new initiative in Minimum Standards of Training for the Offshore Oil and Gas Industry---google Step Change to Safety and get more info---Im afraid it will add to the cost of your investment by a few hundres pounds...

All in investment: Survival + Expences + Medical + MIST = £1500 ish

The initial out lay is quite shocking, However, If you do get a start the return on your self investment can be very rewarding...
 
Thanks again - i'll look into this..... Do you know if you can do all the courses together (obviously excluding medical)?
