I have been asked to scaffold a lift shaft for Otis . The building is a carrilion office block . I am accredited as a safe contractor by Otis . Carrilion are now saying they can only have a nasc accredited scaffold company . What a load of ******** !
If I turn up with full Ppe and my rams why can I not build it what is so special about nasc . I buy the same materials as local nasc members and hold the relevant cisrs card as local nasc members . This is now costing me money .
Seems like another money making game to me .

too true buddy you have no legal requirement to be a part of the NASC mafia it will just be that companies policy its a load of fuckin crap they cant expect small firms to commit to that sort of money and you cant join overnight their is a lot of hoops to jump through tell them your in the process of joining they cant expect to spring that on you and expect you to just phone up and join it doesn't happen that way

and because you don't work directly for carillion I don't see how they can impose their policy on Otis is it Otis policy???? I think not

Major bug bear of mine is this, i can guarantee if i went out now and saw some of the local NASC company's lads working, they'd be no harnesses on, no hat, working in trainers and feckin shorts, boils my feckin p1ss, they only seem keen when it gets to audit time, what the supervisors are doing is feckin beyond me. different attitude to different jobs, surely the great NASC wouldn't approve of this?
My lads, full PPE, no matter what job, barriers and signs out when needed, RAMS in cab of wagon and then you have contractors that have the fooookin neck to intimate that we are an inferior company cause i don't don a knee and swallow albert dock , then paying for the privilege of having 4 fookin letters on my b4stard vans and trucks!!
Still don't get how a competitor can audit your company, just tells me they're all in it together, why would you let a rival firm access to sensitive commercial information?
And if it is all for the greater good of the trade, why do you have to have 3 years audited accounts to be even considered, surely a new start company is where all the guidance and help is needed, or is it just me?
In a previous job, we had a few jobs on with a well known, MCG main contractor and they tried to implement a sort of 'priority for local labour' type program, encouraging the use of local subbies and labour and keeping the money in the area, but i'm fairly certain ( it is a while ago) that they were told they couldn't do that because it was a restriction of trade, probably because they were no NASC companies within the area. Surely this is similar, as the accreditation required to do the work for carilion is not something that anyone can achieve???

In the past large companies used to do an independent check on subbies they were not familiar with. Now it seems they are content to say if the NASC have approved this contractor they must be fine and stop at that.
To abrogate responsibility this way seems to me to be a step too far.

After 22 years in business I have Seen this on specs sent to me so many times ,
And I just don't quote for them anymore ,
At the end of the day if I can get enough else where why would I pay to part of something
I know to be a load of old bo llocks ,
Like everyone else I have seen the so called elite NASC firms work and lads doing the same as the rest of us ,
As the words in the song say,
" it's all about the money money money "
