Soon to be Hull
Hi All,

I moved from the south of England to Aberdeen 3 years ago to try and get offshore work as a Roustabout, but this hasn't happened due to the downturn.

I've been working as maintenance man for Mitie group in Aberdeen Colleges for the last 18months of this but I've decided now to move to Hull to be with my girlfriend there and her 2 sons so she can complete a Masters degree, starting in September.

I've worked on building sites and in maintenance since I left school (I'm 28 now), and have knowledge and experience in most areas, but no formal qualifications. Basically, I'm a semi-skilled tradesman at the mo, but have no certificates to show for it...

So, I'd like to do an Apprenticeship in Scaffolding. Getting some formal training and a trade is more important than a big wage right now.

I know it's a tough climate down there at the moment, but does anyone know of a company that may be willing to take on an Apprentice Scaffolder?

I got my CSCS card last Friday, and if there were a guaranteed job/Apprenticeship offer, I'd be willing to put myself through any further training.

I move to Hull next Thursday (1st April) and will be available for work any time after that.

My CV and covering letter are ready to email, so if you know of anyone that it would be worth sending to I'd really appreciate any local knowledge, otherwise it'll just be a case of printing my CV off and taking it round to all those Google throws up when I get down there.

Cheers,

Albion (Beano)

Hiya,i moved from glasgow to nottingham to be with my girlfriend and been looking for someone to train as a scaffolder. I am an advance scaffolder with over 18yrs experience but find it hard to get long term work cos i dont drive at the moment but learning lol and was going to ask one of my pals fa glasgow to come down. But if you fancy trying nottingham,i will train you up as a scaffolder and in time you can train someone urself. I have had 9 trainee's in the past and all are excellent scaffodler and working all over the world. But there is a massive job kicking off in hull later this yr if ur interested in being trained bye myself.

That sounds worth considering, not sure if I'd be able to commute (I do drive) or whether I'd need to find Mon-Fri digs in Nottingham though.

Any chance of you giving me a ring to discuss the offer?

My land line is 01224 325327 or mobile is 07985 489265.

Really appreciate this,

Albion

Hello Lads

Its great to see the Forum working in a massivley positive way, I hope it works out for you both.

Sniper...What Nottingham lads do you know? I've been away from the Nottingham scene for a number of years although I still live there, when I was with SGB a couple of Scottish lads worked for me, one was Billy Wilson he was an ace bloke and I had a lot of time for him, is he still doing the rounds, if so please send him my best regards.

Cheers

Paul

Ah...must be on one of the Nottingham School...pity he's working for that shower....but needs must when the devil drives.

If you are still in touch can you pass on my regards...I'm Paul Wallis...he will remember me.

Cheers

Thanks Mel, fired the CV over to you. Look forward to hearing from you with more details on that one.

Hoping to hear from Sniper today regarding the Nottingham idea, sounds like a great start into the industry and am deffo interested in the offer.

If anyone else has any other ideas or contacts in the Hull area who may be willing to start me as an Apprentice Scaffolder please do get in touch.

This is a great, friendly forum and really useful to such as me starting out.

Glad I found it, it's been of more use in 24 hours than any other site I've trawled in the last 3 years!

Albion :)

Thanks very much! My girlfriend sent me details of this company a few days ago. I'll print my CV off and take it in when I get there.

Still not heard from the others, so guess I'll be doing the rounds after the Easter weekend. Hoping to do the site safety passport at the end of that week too with HETA.

Cheers.

OK tried these today, Paul left about 3 years ago! Anyway handed them my CV but they don't have anything at the mo, in fact they said they've been laying people off.

Didn't ever hear back from Sniper03 on the Nottingham thing.

So am now here in Hull permanently and looking for work, anything to get me started - even in construction/labouring if no scaffolding work out there at the moment.

I have a CSCS card and am booked to do the Site Safety Passport with HETA this Thursday & Friday.

A mate at Commercial Scaffolding (Tony Sudds) has looked over my list of companies and am going to go round tomorrow to those he's advised to look at.

If anyone hears of anything coming up would really appreciate a heads up.

Cheers guys :blink1:

first thing you need to do is your touch screen test and aproach the local firms mate also get your passport to safety done if you can instead of the touch screen as this will open up more doors for you..

then you need to apply for a trainee scaffolders card from the cisrs website . funding will be available for your training. Any probs then PM me.

touch screen test i that for you cpcs card
and what you mean by passport to safety
sorry im new to this, been in the army all my years

scaffolding is under the cisrs registration scheme at the moment .it is under cpcs sheme but only for scaffolding.
