Hi everybody,
I'm a retired builder, now living in norfolk. Many years ago we had a very active arm of our company doing scaffolding, mainly in West London, Earls Court, Kensington and Chelsea areas. Independant scaffolds were quite rare in those days, especially as we worked a lot on brick elevations. So there was a lot of perps chiselled out to received putlogs and wooden wedges.
A lot of the standards were iron and steel (bloody heavy and cold in winter!)
I remember putting up a scaffold up the front of the Victoria Wine company in Earls Court Road. It was on a corner and sometime during the night a car hit it. Amazingly the standards just bent and it didn't affect the integrity of the scaffold at all. I think it might have been a different story if it had been ally.
Now, I need some help!
I have just signed contracts on an old 1825 detached house in Norfolk. I have had a price from a scaffolding firm locally and to put up a scaffold with a corrugated lid right over the top, they are quoting £12-14,000.00.
Can anyone tell me the going rate for the job?
It's 10 metres wide and 6 metres deep. Perfect rectangle, loads of access, no funny shapes. 4.5 metres high to gutter line. I want to take down a central stack and do a new roof and I just know as soon as I take it off it's going to pour down. The building basically needs enclosing as all the render has to come off and be re-rendered in Lime mortar.
Is there anyone out there who can help me?
Many thanks, Energyman.
