McNulty Offshore in administration with loss of 100 jobs in South ShieldsBy Karen DentFeb 28 2012
MCNULTY Offshore has gone into administration with the immediate loss of 100 jobs in South Shields.
The offshore oil and gas contractor, as well as its subsidiaries McNulty Offshore Construction Ltd and Consafe Engineering Services, ran into trouble because of the economic climate and the effects on the supply chain.
The administration is being handled by KPMG, which said as the company could not trade, it had no option but to announce the job losses.
In South Shields, 32 staff have been retained to help the administrators but there have been no job losses yet among its 34 staff in Aberdeen.
Mark Firmin, joint administrator with Howard Smith, said: “While this business has struggled with tightening global trading conditions for some time, it has a long history of delivering successful projects.
“This, teamed with its prime freehold Tyneside location, give us reasons to consider it an attractive acquisition opportunity. Therefore we are marketing the business and are hopeful of securing a sale.”
