Just finished a 20day working Marathon but this last week was one of calamity and accidents.

I swear I was jinxed last week

Started on Monday when my labourer crushed my hand between a 20 and a brace, An hour later was climbing through a 10ft lift with half a bucket of fittings on my shoulder, was comming down the swaybrace when i thought it would be a good idea to jump on to the lift. WRONG left foot landed on the corner of a crate thought it was broken.
To end the week still unable to walk properly. Friday was doing a small one over a glass conservatory while leaveling in my temp up right the ladder slid out from under me hit the fence i remember seeing my level then the sky then the tube against the fence smacked that then landed with both forearms on some wooden decking.

Glad the week is over but in true old school style carried on working unlike this new breed of scaffs who take time off for a bruised toe or a little cut

Ok so here's my bad week, fri night cut my head open again, had to go to hospital and miss work sat. Mon i got to work, put one ledger in and my back went, 8.30 i'm on my way back home. Tues got to work, was pulling a 21 in from the rope and wheel, the end of it knocked one of the advanced guardrail standards slightly to the right, this caused it to pop off the standard and drop 60 ft below narrowly missing someone. Head safety guy came out from Trad, did an investigation and turns out the product failed, if you twist it slightly it touches the bolt on the double and bang it's gone. There are 2 different types of these standards and it was decided the best thing was to remove this certain style from site. Combisafe were informed of this.

Then on Friday i was taking the same advanced guardrail standard off, pulled the pin out that was connected to the standard, twisted it round and bang, down goes the standard leaving the pin in my hand, this time it went 100ft, again we were lucky there were no injuries.

Another investigation, the findings were Product failed (AGAIN)

We checked other standards in the boxes on site and 2 were with the same pin twisted round ready for it to happen again.

This is a major flaw and Combisafe were informed on friday. All Advanced guardrail was removed from this and all other Trad sites.

Could and probably will go through to all the big firms who use this. But we wont be using it again sometime soon.

Unlucky that it was 2 different issues and that it happened to me both times but the main thing is nobody was injured.

Watch this space for more information.

Interesting info on the combisafe advanced guardrail. We dont use it but in my opinion it highlights the fact that its not the be all and end all of safe sytems of work and has it own particular flaws.

That will put the cat amongst the pigeons.
