I've just won a bigish job but I am in the usual quandry, that being all the gear we own is out, the yard is empty and I don't want to spend 50k buying gear to do this job when I know we will have a load coming down 6 weeks after this job starts ( feast and famine scenario).

We are going to have to go down the hire route for this job as we can't shell out for new gear, but I will buy the boards, whats the present rate per foot per week for tube , fittings, and I want to use ready lock transomes as its a timber frame job.

Lads ( and lady ) your help is appreciated so when the rep from Generation comes in on Monday I can show the national average for hire and not get rinsed.;)
.

Hey russ i have a load of readylocks i wanna boot out , we hire of beaver
??? per foot
??? per board
Dont hire fittings not cost effective , make sure you get at least 85% of list prices to make it worth doing
Il send you a copy invoice monday showing what we pay bud

smokey

On a job like that it would no doubt be cheaper to rent cuplock as youl save on wages too !!! , just had some good deals on cuplock

Do us a favour Smokey ,give me a price for 500 Readylocks if you have em, speak Monday

il check out whats left as sold a load last week , mate go down the system route , readylocks are a pain in the ass when you got to drop lifts ect

Na we got Cup lock ,but as its our bricklayers doing the brickwork they have been told to build through the lifts and we will pull back the transomes from 2 boards to 1 board (inside) we don't have to drop the lifts then. Imagine it ,bricklayers working to help scaffs, new concept or what

Well we haven't started yet mate, its as much as they can do usualy to flush the chain in the site toilets.

hi Daneruss it might be cheaper for you depending on the hire period to buy it and sell what you dont want after, as you know geeting xhire from contractors is akin to pulling teeth, but you will still have to pay for the hire. :)

Russ
Don't hire, its money down the drain mate
You could buy, some suppliers are offering to extend credit by up to 90 days
and at the end of the job, you could always sell the gear to recover your investment which will be cheaper than what you would have paid in hire

Well with tube getting into 90p a foot and boards at 8.00 each wont be paying them prices for the mid summer rush to then loose a fortune selling at xmas - hence hire !

I agree scaffy, hiring a safer option at the moment. One rep offered to fill my yard with gear at no cost and just to phone in when ever I use a stillage. They are desperate to empty their yards as well.

I hate hiring anything, but I have to say with things the way they are, and gear coming down in 6-8 weeks I think hiring if you get a good rate, is the cheapest option, because we are a relativley new company the banks won't give us loads of cash to buy gear.

Hi dangeruss,

I think the fact the banks wont give you the cash is a blessing in disguise. I've never asked and touch wood never will.
