Im currently staying in HKG but will move to UK so
Iv done 3years metal scaffolding in hkg and certified by CICTA construction council but im worried that in UK these certificates may not be recognised... iv built scaffolds for Disneyland for rollercoasters and landscaping... airport cargo hangers... 32floor lift shafts for properties and hotels and my experience is varied between types of scaffold used as hong kongs construction industry is booming at the moment... but all of my experience will be useless if i dont have the necessary cards and requirements to work on uk scaffolds. pls help thanks:wondering:

Hi and Welcome To The Scaffolders Forum!

Welcome to the forum.
If you have erected scaffolds for Disneyland you could probably get a job in UK easily. There are plenty of Mickey Mouse companies there.

Haha then i better tread carefully.. =)

Welcome Saskhiteru , please tell us a little more about HKG .

I cant remember looking anywhere in hongkong that isnt constructing! They still use alot of bamboo scaffolding as it cheaper, lighter and flexible... I had my doubts at first but when i went on one it was nearly as firm as steel tube scaffolding.. the way they do it is almost like weaving carbon fibre... but personally i stick to the metal stuff. As bamboo at the end of the day can rot from everyday wear and tear and damp. They are big on safety...which can be annoying but quite right... as there are many accidents... not long ago a crane dropped a steel platform that basically crushed someone to death... which could have been avoided... and the problem these days are companies employing cheap labour from china who are incompetent at most times... but apart from that hkg is a nice place but i prefer UK its more relaxed lifestyle... HKG everyones always rushing i see old folk walk faster than me or should i say speed walking/jog/sprinting.. I will try post some pictures up when I get some free time. =)

Thats whats killing the construction industry over here cheap labour, with what your saying it looks like its worldwide

Ah not a good sign... I went and did a whole bloody course on all aspects of scaffolding and these 'cheap labour' people come into the industry on a oneday scaffolding card??!!! I find it hardly possible for them to have learned all that I have in the space of 8hours... I refuse to modify or dismantle any scaffolds built by them.. guard rails are not at the appropriate heights...toeboards fall with just a shake of the scaffold... and they want to promote safety a bring accident rate down to a zero... thats one of the main reasons i wanna get out of hkg construction... i was walking across one of there scaffolds and the whole platform started sliding away from me!?! Me and many other colleagues complain but all our voices are drowned out by the extra savings the companies are making from these fake scaffolders!! >.<
