I have just moved here from the channel islands to start a fresh start and on arrival got told my part 1 ticket does not cover England although i done it with astra access safety training a company based in Huddersfield as far as i know. Also we do not have cscs cards so could you please give me any help on what one to get? Basically i need some help in what direction to head in as i have been scaffolding for around 14 months and would love to carry it on. I don't mind having to do the labouring stage again if i have to. I am in the portsmouth area but could travel. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Welcome new breed.
As your card is not valid, you need to get a cots card, which is a 1 day course about the do's and donts on site, there about 100 notes each then you need to take you touch screen cscs test for your labourer's card. while your doing these courses get in touch with local firms and see if they can give you a start. If your lucky and any good at your job they may put you through your part 1 and 2 cards. Failing that save up and put yourself through them at a grand a course. A bit daunting i know but if this is the career you wish to persue then it'll be worth it.
All the best....den.

Cheers rigger.
I hope he gets the opportunity i did when i started. There's not enough young blood coming through to keep our game alive, if we dont look after our own then it'll all be foreign labour soon.

hi new breed ive been scaffolding for 3 years but never had a ticket so as employers wont touch you without cisrs nowadays ive had to start back at the bottom.google cots course and find closest location to you,i went to safety and access in bullwell, nottingham which is very popular but obviously a trek for you, theres one in kent.go on the course, ive put the details below, then sit the citb health and safety test(around £30,touch screen)then you will get a cisrs trainee scaffolders card which will get you in between a labourer and part 1 wage, some posts on here in London are paying £14 an hour for trainees!!the course is pretty mundane if u av already benn in the game but its designed for people with no experience aswell,5-6 hours in classroom, with an hour in practical room lifting tubes and tying them on properly, but needs must, you will then be cisrs registered and its just an update on card once you have done your part 1,which ive just done.theres a myth you have to wait 6 months after doing cots course to take your part 1,but you don't all you need is 6 months total experience, which you have
good luck mate
