Hertel celebrates Stanlow safety milestone

21 February 2012

The Hertel team at Stanlow oil refinery has reached the significant landmark of three million hours without a recordable incident.

More than 300 Hertel employees have contributed 2,432 working hours per day to reach the safety milestone, which dates back to January 2010. This achievement includes a major maintenance shutdown for three months in 2011 that required staff numbers to double.

Multi-discipline construction and maintenance company Hertel is responsible for delivering a range of services at Stanlow including insulation, scaffolding and painting as well as civil and mechanical engineering.

Sean Williams, HSEQ Manager for Hertel at Stanlow, added: "This latest safety achievement at Stanlow continues our long history with ESSAR/Shell UK.

"Hertel is dedicated to best practice safety procedures and colleagues are encouraged to continually reflect and improve on their performance. Each member of staff has the attitude that individual and group safety is of upmost importance."

John Salkeld, Hertel's Regional Director for the North West and North Wales, said: "Hertel's efforts to reach the three million hour landmark are highly commendable. It's thanks to the hard work of everyone on site that we are able to celebrate our longest ever run without a recordable incident and the achievement is a credit to all involved."
