Hello.

Just found these forums today through a google search, and had some interesting reads already.
Don`t know if this site is for british scaffolders mainly, but it seems most of you guys are british or at least working in Britain?
Was still very happy to see that something like this exists! Could be interesting if this forum expands and more nationalities are represented.

About me:
30 year old guy, been working with scaffolding for about 9 years.
At the moment working as a foreman/supervisor at Ormen Lange processing plant in Norway.

Hello Gink and welcome hope you enjoy your time on here

are there any jobs out there mate

There`s always a demand for skilled scaffolders in the cities in Norway (Oslo, Bergen, Trondheim, Stavanger), particulary around the Oslo area.
Most scaffolding companys in the cities won`t require you to speak norwegian, english will get you a long way.
A quick google search should provide quite a few company names and phone numbers. Just a couple names to start:
Bautas.
Frico.
ThyssenKrupp.
Pilot.
Stillcom.

In the offshore/onshore oil industry it`s a bit harder to get in due to the heavy demand for norwegian craft certificate.

To any young serious guys that wants to go abroad I would definately recommend to try out norway, work hard on learning the language (which is easy and quite similar to english), and attempt to get the norwegian craft certificate. You`ll pretty much be guaranteed a job on either a offshore or onshore installation.

Hello Gink my first time on the Scaffold forum,im a advanced scaffolder looking for work abroad is there anything going in norway ?

Thanks
Graham

Hello Graham.

There aren`t any big builds that I`m aware of at the moment, but I`ve seen some companies looking for people, for example ThyssenKrupp had an ad out for 10 scaffolders not long ago.
Of course, times are better during spring/summer, but if you really want to go abroad then Norway is a good option for several reasons.

As I said earlier, if you`re determined and serious, if you try hard on learning the language (I know polish guys that have learned decent norwegian in a year, and polish is much more different from norwegian than english), get into a serious company, and work at getting the norwegian craft certificate, then you`re pretty much guaranteed to land a job either onshore or offshore.
Good rotations, alu material, good pay, good living conditions and good food.
I would guess that someone with the right attitude can do this in two years.

There`s a screaming hunger for people with the craft certificate nowadays, and I don`t see the need decreasing as the various offshore/onshore installations growing older.

Of course, this relies on taking a risk, moving over here, and in a way starting from scratch.

If you`re looking for something more short term, getting together a good crew and do price jobs in the Oslo area is an option.

Thanks for all the welcomes!

Edit: Also, norwegian chicks are hotter.
