Hello new to the forum and havnt got clue about scaffolding.
I live in central scotland so can commute to work anywere in central belt.
Served in the armed forces for past 11 years as commando and looking for a career change and some advice.
Can I do any courses that would get me a start in scaffolding?
I get a extensive resstlement package with the armed forces and 3 or 4 months ressetlment time. The armed forces will pay for most of my training I require. I also have 2 grand a year, that i can use 3 times (6 Grand all together) on the enhanced learning scheme that I can use for upto 10 years after leaving the forces.
Is there any short cuts or ways to complete a part 1 if im willing to pay myself?

Thanks for any advice

Mate iv been in the forces for nearly 12 years, basically since I was a Kid.
Iv not got a clue what todo,
Iv seen part 1 and part2 scaffolding courses and scaffolding seems like good wage compared to alot of other jobs out there.

Is it do able at 30 to become a scaffolder or Am I dreaming about becoming a scaffolder???

stand ready, mate dont do scaffolding get ur ass over into off shore with the tickets you got and that sort of traing you would be a great asset to any firm.
Get and do some stags on a boat protection mob for a phew mounths theres a phew quid in that and see wat floats buy as they say.
Im up to me nuts in scaffolding and if i had known wat i know now, it would honestly be the last trade i would of done after leaving the infantry.Medic on a rig do rope access you got some great tickets. Even work on the supply boats as medic. honest .uck scaffolding mate. all the best

Yeah loads of my mates are doing maritime secuirty and making a good few quid but its sustaining been away 8 months every year.
Yeah iv looked into doing offshore medic course too and rope access I aint got a clue what to do to be honest.
I just thought scaffolding would be quite a easy trade to pick up and it seems good money.

It's like marmite u either love it or hate it but money comes with experience in alot of cases u start at the bottom money ain't good 200 a wk 260 take home depending on area u could ring up sim firms as a driver on the 18 toner drop bed lorrys an labour in between like sum of our drivers u will get a better rate for driving an slowly pick it up as u go along with all ur licences would be snapped I left the army an got into this wen I was 19 (kicked out big regret) but loved this job ever since mate

You're over qualified to be a scaff.

You could dive in and take your part one but you're supposed to do 6 months of work as a labourer to prepare you for it. It can be a hard slog to get to your advanced to earn decent money. But with the Armys backing at least you'd be funded.

What sort of hourly rates is a part 1 and part2 on average? then what sort of rates for advance.

thanks

It varies depending on the type of work and where in the country you are. Part 1 isn't great, sometimes no better than a labourer but you can get £100 a day if you work hard. Part 2s can get a bit more than that and advanced a lot more if you use the ticket, like working on major projects rather than house bashing.
