whats the likelyhood of having your scaffolding gear stolen off your jobs? we spent ages painting the bloody gear because according to my old man people tend to steal your gear when its out on jobs!!
any thoughts?
does this happen very often?

It does happen, particularly on council jobs where there may be no site security and the residents probably don't take so much notice as to what's happening.

Years ago we turned up at a block of flats in South london to discover 500 brand new boards had been stripped from our scaffold over the weekend.

Board bands are ok, but they can easily be removed, so branding the boards is a good idea as you cannot paint any of the timber for safety reasons.

If you don't already have one it's worth investing in a ramping machine for your tubes too.

If you have a scaffold firm you're gonna have gear stolen on occasions. That is a racing cert.

This could go on the other thread is it true!!

Scaffolders don't steal!! We are left presents that someone else did not want!!

So I am told.

Years ago when working in London everyone borrowed each others scaffolding even when painted. I recall an Acme scaffolding every colour under the rainbow!!

;)

ol yes left around it will attract magpies and pikeys !

Its called good housekeeping if theres no gear left on the ground then its a safer site even if its not yours:bigsmile: unfortunately its the nature of the beast everyone does it and if you dont then your going to be a lot of kit short within a year. I thought the days of a firm going round london and stripping someone elses job had gone or does this still go on:mad:

had one dissapear in blackheath last year 4x40ft boarded , bandit country

knock down gangs

some of the best firms started off by "accidentally" acquiring materials
i can remember when subbying in the 80s turning up to strike a job near Euston and finding a great deal of ally tube in it
i think some "accidentally" got lost and was used by us for weekend stack jobs etc
happy days

Whilst on the subject of good housekeeping. Ever notice if you stack gear on a new build site, then it becmes the dumping ground for other trades waste.

If you're ever in blackheath stealing gear, consider spending some of the proceeds in my favourite restaurant Villa Moura. Superb!

A very common occurence ! Sometimes, you also need to be keep a very close eye on some of your employees as well ! Many a guvvy job get's done with gear nicked from the poor sod struggling to pay the wages ! Oh yes, I speak from experience !!!!! Take my advice, check your gear out and check your gear in. Don't let your men take loaded wagons home on a night and make sure they have no 'spare time' on their hands during the course of the working day to stop them dropping some of your gear off at another job you know nothing about or at a lock up somewhere.
