from : French scaffolding giant buys Beaver 84 Ι Construction Enquirer

Privately-owned French scaffolding manufacturer and hirer Altrad has bought Beaver 84 to build a big UK business.

Altrad is one of the largest suppliers of scaffolding in Europe, with scaffolding representing around 70% of its €445 m sales.

A few years ago it bought Derbyshire-based Belle Group to spearhead the UK launch of a range of façade scaffolds and Plettac branded multi-directional system scaffolding.

The deal gives Altrad control of 11 distribution outlets across the country from Edinburgh to Beaver’s head office in Basildon and west to Cardiff.

Dr Mohed Altrad, the Syrian-born founder of Altrad Group, believes that the UK’s heavy use of traditional tube and fitting scaffolding will shift towards more modern types of equipment.

Previous owner building materials giant SIG said it decided to sell the scaffolding business after a review of its businesses.

SIG strategic development director Andrew Greenaway said: “We believe that Beaver 84 has greater potential for growth within the Altrad Group, who as one of Europe’s largest scaffolding businesses, are better positioned to take Beaver 84 forward in its chosen markets.”
