CITB statement regarding card fraud in the construction industry.

Carl Rhymer, Delivery and Customer Engagement Director at the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB), said:

“We know card fraud poses a serious threat to the UK construction industry and we are tackling this head-on.

“In July 2014, CITB’s Executive Team doubled our spend on fraud investigations, which has led to five internet testing centres being shut down, with eight other centres under investigation.

“We suspended the contract for WEP Testing Centre, which featured on Newsnight on 21 October back in August this year, and today we closed another test centre that our investigations showed had carried out fraudulent tests.

“We are working with CSCS to revoke fraudulent cards wherever they are found, which has in some cases helped trigger investigations into suspect testing centres.

“In addition, we are accelerating our plans to install mandatory CCTV in all testing centres to monitor footage for signs of fraudulent activity, and have launched a series of spot-checks on test centres to act as a deterrent.

“Our intelligence suggests card fraud is focused in a small minority of the 544 testing centres across the country. We continue to work hard alongside partners including the Health and Safety Executive and the National Crime Agency to help stamp out this problem.”

And a car park in the North East :D

How thick do you need to be to get a CSCS card fraudulently FFS?

You might well be surprised Stone , I have a couple that thought they could walk in and walk out ,
Only to fail, and they ain't thick lads just over confident and didn't revise the book

I would imagine it`s foreign johnnys who are getting the dodgy cards, it has to be said the CSCS H+S test is pretty simple stuff, are you thinking of getting some of your lads to join the local quiz league Phil lol.

It is not "johnny foreigners" its UK guys born and bred,,,,,,,,if some guys don't believe it then you are living in cloud cuckoo land and / or never been about. This is on a large scale and you would be amazed how these inposters obtain them. I wouldn't hesitate to get rid of them ASAP and company owners should be more aware of there workforce.

Harvey. The clip I saw was johnny foreigners having answers translated to them. cscs at least have shut down the" rogue" centres, 9 so far, and in the process of tracking down cards issued.

my grandson passed the operatives test on the cd rom when he was 9 and the scaffold supervisors when he was 13 just a money making scam with no effect on health and safety on site. in fact it could possibly have a negative effect because people aren't being trained properly

I agree with the basic test ,
There are to many people on site these days that don't even speak English ,
At least then you know they have a basic idea about HS matters,
It's the same as tool box talks if you been in the game years they can seem like a waste of time ,
But for young fellas they can actually learn something they didn't know and possibly save someone from serious injury or worse
