Hey guys,

Do we have to provide guardrail for external ladders up to 4 meter ?

I remember that no need guardrails for external ladders up to 4 meters height of scaffold. But i couldnt find any documents to support my word.

Any idea any help ?

Most safety officer's like some kind of protection around external ladders

There's nothing in TG20 that states that a guardrail is required on an external ladder.
Although it does state that external ladders should not be used over more than 2 lifts in height or over 6m[which is confusing] as most scaffolds at 6m in height would be 3 lifts.
But as Smark 150 says, most safety officers like to see a rail in place,i would check with whoever your contracting for to see what their safety policy states.

Safety officers say that in OSHA mention guardrails required. But i couldnt find anything proves that.

For me stupid :S

SG25:14 have a look at that, in my experience all external ladders need what I call a back scratcher around the top, a double one if you cannot fit a gate, hope this helps
