Just joined late last night.

I'm Trevor (surprise surprise!) and I've a confession to make. I'm not a scaffolder and as I'll be 49 this month, I don't see me becoming one. So, why am I here? Well, I've big respect for you guys and would like to know about the profession for its own sake from the guys on the front line.

I hope to pick up some insights in aspects and perhaps to have some basic (perhaps not too silly!) queries answered. I've already learnt that they are called tubes, not poles for example!

I've recently been made redundant from an office job but I have experience in HGV driving and I can see it possible that I may return to trucking. What concerns me is that many drivers are unfit and overweight. In contrast, I have never seen an overweight scaffolder! It then crossed my mind that scaffolding stuff is transported in trucks, so are there possibilities there or is there a HGV qualified driver in scaffolder teams in the same way as with firefighters?

I'm also a member of a truck driver's forum and compared to that these forums seem a lot less "angry"! - which I like.

Hope you don't think me too wierd.

Anyway, bye for now and I look forward to increasing my knowledge and perhaps making new online mates.

Welcome mate.

welcome Trevor there are jobs for HGV drivers in scaffolding and you will get to take lorrys a fart wouldnt fit as the nearer you get it to the job the less walking involved for the scaffs hahahhhaha we have taken lorrys right of the road and through housing estates to get closer (not great for the paving slabs) make sure if you apply for a scaffolding driving post you find out what is expected from you is clear as we used to get drivers running gear up ladders , pulling on the rope and wheel until they wised up LOL

Welcome Trevor

I like your style, when you have completed your study of the scaffolding species pleas post your results :D

It is on the whole a laid back forum, the lads on hear can spot a w*nker before he comes over the horizon and we dont threaten each other on a keyboard, more likely to find out where you live, drive overnight and front you up as you set off for work
