can anyone confirm whilst driving a 7.5 tonne lorry providing

1. you drive less than four hours a day
2. you work within 100km of your base
3. you are a qualified scaffolder and not a driver
4. do not use a lorry every day

you only need to record your driving hours in a log book and not need to use a digital or manual tachograph

Go to the VOSA site and it's all there for you .
Just out of interest what would you gain by not putting a tacho in the machine

If you only need a log book you would not need a tachograph or the expenses of having them calibrated, repaired etc.

Just a thought, would the tachograph still need to be in its calibration date as the vehicle may be take out of the 100km radius.

It does as far as I was told. If it has tacho fitted it must be calibrated even if u don't use it. I find it easier just to use it

we have digital tachos on two of our lorries, a couple of scaffs do not have a drivers card therefore have to use a log book this is what I am clarifying.

If your trucks are on a digital card there is no need for log books but the driver must do a digital print out at the end of each working week if he exceeds the recommended distance from the base depot as the crow flies just a little advice if your drivers don't have a cpc with a blue licence and a digital driving card you and the driver are operating illegal

As far as i was aware if u have a tacho in your vechile it has to be in date & test weather you intend to use it or not

Im sure this has come up before, thought you could drive 7 tonner but not as a full time driver without cpc. only to get kit to site.

Not on about cpc fred - tacho completley differnt lol

I think there Wud b less rules and regs if we used helicopters to transport

you can drive it only if the driver is a part of the scaffolding squad without the cpc and only getting gear to the job that they are working on

You can drive any HGV without a CPC card , but you must have a scaffolders card ,
As you are claiming your job is a scaffolder and not a full time driver .
You still come under the same daily and weekly rest breaks as any full time lorry driver ,
7.5 and under comes under national rules and any bigger lorry comes under EU rules
You also must have a drivers daily walk around fault check book filled in before any journey if you own a digital card you must carry it any time your driving a lorry even if the lorry your driving is not digital ,
I got done by VOSA a few months back and got a £300 for only having a 43 hour weekly break instead of 45

They are ar seholes and will do you
