We have a site with 70 houses on it, pretty boring stuff but its work for the lads and local. The main contractor has an NHBC safety officer who visits every other week, he's a complete cock of the highest order.

On his last visit he wrote in his report that the scaffolding company had erected the ladder access next to a trench (trench was dug after the scaffold went up ). He also complained that the beanbags we have placed into the rooms to arrest falls were not tightly packed together enough, I had a stand up row with him stating that "your supposed to prevent the fall with a birdcage scaffold, not arresst the fall with bean bags" and that the main contractor was to tight to pay for birdcages, hence the cheapo bean bag option. He just banged on about the pymarid of risk and said it was ok .

Does anybody else have this problem with NHBC safety officers or is just me ? I have seen plastic platform birdcages with plastic tubes now are they any good and how much are they to erect per m2 ?

We deal with idiots like this on a daily basis. One of our clients has a new contracts manager and he's on a right crusade at the moment, pissing everyone off, similar situation recently, he was saying this and that was the responsiblity of our scaffolders but when I turned the question onto him and other trades about their responsibilites it sort of killed the conversation dead....:p

As for the crash decking, we see it a lot on site, simple easy stuff to erect, goes up fast as hell. There is also a newer type that has a load bearing of about 3 tonnes. It was used on one of our sites recently as a trial and the site manager seemed happy with it. Far cheaper than birdcaging every room.

must be the same tosser we see every other week that aint got a scooby doo , any numbers for this crash decking dave

Will speak to the site manager and get a contact number off him.

SGB used to be the main supliers for this stuff but a few have got on the bandwagon now. Good earner I guess.

could be a change of direction ha , not like that polystyrene sgb used before then

Oh ,like the new "Moderator" badge, very flash, you had to do any moderating yet ?

Dangeruss – there is something very odd about NHBS ‘safety officers’.

It seems to be a prerequisite that they provide absolute evidence to verify the fools that they are.

A few years ago I had one complain to me about the ‘holes’ in castellated beams used to take a design scaffold up!

And they keep on coming – Scaffy SGB polystyrene blocks, I thought they died a death. Don’t even think about what could happen in a fire

Stumpy

I used some TRAD plastic decking a few years back and found that when you had to fill a gap by putting a tile ontop of the main body, the leg used to support it had to have 2 feet under it, but the feet weren't the same thickness as the tile so it never ended up level..Mind you the legs are like a pi**ed up forrest any way. Saw one in use a few months back by DSL, nothing locked, shook like a sh*tting dog.

Self moderated eh!!:toung:

i had a safety officer like you have, 23 years in the Army,he had a job working for MR PERSIMMON.I told him that i knew someone that worked with him in the Army and they use to call him ankle. He said why did they call me Ankle.I said they use to call you ANKLE as your 2 and a half foot below a CUN*.You want to check on Trad decking it goes from 5.50 - 6.50 a meter mate.

Haha yeah I remember that - Early 90's?

Nobody considered it wouldn't be heat resistant!!

Oh how we chuckled!

worked for a housebuilder in 90's doing putlogs their safety officer used to insist the corner ledgers were on doubles, you're probably thinking nothing wrong with that , except when we did this he insisted it didn't windbraces and used to make us take them out.

not done no moderating yet russ
Do those moderator powers extend out to other forums, or at home or in the pub ?lets say if you were in the pub and an argument started, could you leap up and moderate ?or would your powers be useless ?

I am as it happens, I didn't know they needed moderators, I could have done that. I'm saving the knotweed toolbox talk for a special occasion, I reckon the lads need a treat from time to time.
