Just finished up where I was and looking through the job market and honestly I'd say it was about 9/10 agency work!!!! The only few companies that are advertising are trad ( obviously lol ), qfs for the battersea power station and palmers for Canning Town.

Now we all know that londons booming at the moment but personally after a few bad experiences with agencies Im only looking at firms and actually finding it harder and harder to get a start ( nothing to do with my ticket ) has anyone else had or having the same problem?

alot easier when your calling up with a part2 pal,i know from experience calling up its all going well till you mention part1 card then its "ok we will get back to you"

Your not wrong jig I was talking in general mate I'm awaiting a call from a mate personally and actually not had one mention my ticket but it seems that for some reason firms are turning to agencies more than ever very strange mate

Bobby, Firms Take On Through Agencies Because They Dont Have To Bother About Payroll. Holiday Pay Or Any Other Benefit At All And At The End Of The Contract They Just Punt You, No Responsibility Or Concern For The Worker At All.

I tend to find out that its generally the bigger firms that are responsible for this.
The smaller specialist and family run firms still seem to take on cards-in lads full time.
At least in my area of the country.

Yeah think your right mate that's why then honestly had a right look for the first time in ages and couldn't believe it about 95% agencies!!! And after the shlt I've had recently with them I might as well be on the Rock and roll the only good firm advertising are qfs the others are admirals, brogan and trad...........

But if it wasn't for out most illustrious cockney on the forum I'd be in bother he's already guaranteed me the Spartan workout lol but can't wait ;) SAS selection here I come :)

Stocks I left as I had the right asshole of being by myself not only was it illegal with my ticket it's the fact they were mob handed on days and on my Todd at night plus the £££ wasn't the best in truth granted it was easy enough might have shot myself in foot but things have now worked out cheers mate

boab the agencies and the use of them by the bigger firms is fecking the whole country up
the whole unbrella payroll scam is a disgrace that needs to adressed as workers are being conned to claiming all sorts of expenses which from what i have seen disappear to the payroll company with very little benefit to the worker.
The government must be loosing fortunes into the bargain:mad:
if i were you i would go with the trusted local firm as you know what your getting evbrytime.;)

Yep happy again nail on the head as for umbrella I thought it was the bollox.......... Till I tried it jigga infact was spot on about it as well robbing *****!!!! It actually works out worse that paye and you have to ly thru ur teeth to get a good wage with the expenses and then run the risk of getting a tug with the hmrc

industrial/ union jobs seem to be the only big sites that take on direct nowadays
TELLS A STORY

Hi Mate,

Just spotted this and thought i'd drop my head in to the conversation. I run a scaffolding agency and to be honest there is no winning at the moment with what is going on.

We would prefer everyone to continue as self employed as everyone is used to it and makes sense and has done for years. However the government has stopped agencies being able to pay through Self employed schemes due to this being classed as 'false self employment' as you are effectively not working under your own control but have a manager to report to.

The other option is PAYE, which would mean you guys earning less due to paying the NI, and the agency having to charge the client more meaning less work about. The other option is firms taking on directly on the books PAYE, however the lack of flexibility end up with redundancies and companies going under. Using the agencies is preferable as the companies don't have that liability to keep their numbers high when a big job finished.

The third and least popular option all round is PAYE Umbrella.... Which to be honest, if it is done properly can work out very well. However, it does require guys to be very organised and claim expenses which they are legally allowed to claim. (A LOT of umbrella companies let everything slide, but this is a tad dodgy to say the least) Expenses like Mileage, living allowance, digs, tools, clothes , tube tickets are all claimable and you effectively get around 33% of the value back. HOWEVER do not go through Umbrella unless you are organised and do your expenses.

I do not see Umbrella as a scam at all, however you can get majorly stung for Tax and NI if everything is not in order every week.

I hope this helps, but if you want any more info get in touch. We have a load of work starting up on Heathrow soon and get your details to me if you are interested.

Cheers,

Ryan
