i'm on with pricing a job where i need to use an RSJ for a monorail lifting beam to carry a 2 tonne beam trolley. I can't get hold of my engineer and need to find out how deep an RSJ would be to take this weight. The beams going to be hanging under a job which is spanned with beams, which will be beefed up with the design, so span is not a problem. just need to price up the steel work. Obviously the smaller, cheaper beam section i an get away with the better!!:D

Cheers

Waz, u could PM Alan reade on here the best engineer i have ever come across, i used to work for him in UAE, very knowledgeable man.

ive used 205mm x 152mm (8 x6) on 2000kg before from designs .hope this helps.

J's come in different kg's per metre. eg.8x6 may start from35 kg up to95kg per metre so kg weight might have to be calculated.
