A CHURCH under construction collapsed yesterday.
The five-storey structure in Ilford fell down around 4.30pm after the steel framework and scaffolding surrounding it came apart.
Six cars were destroyed when the scaffolding fell into a car park near the building site in Clements Road, though all 22 construction workers escaped unscathed.
Nobody was hurt but twenty guests from a neighbouring hotel were forced to leave and other buildings were evacuated while six fire engines and four rescue crews searched the site until 10pm.
One passer-by was treated for shock by the London Ambulance Service
