See this today on one of our jobs hastings seafront , yes that is a board cantilevered of a ledger

now why doesnt that suprise me. when was it taken.
 
looks a bit scared to me the painter,,,otherwise he would have a tab in his left hand:D
 
should always double up your boards on anything over 1.2m span
 
A friend of mine once told me about his grandad who used to paint the outside window frames on his house by putting a board under his bed & out of the window.This worked well for a few goes,until one day the sash window slid down & he couldnt open it.The local kids on their way home from school stood & laughed at him & chucked a few stones up...

Dont know if its true,but made me laugh when I heard it.
 
it will be the scaffs fault for not securing the boards correctly to stop nobby takin them out!
 
You should all know if its only a quick job any old **** will be safe.
 
in the good old bad oldays we have all done worse than that
 
There used to be a reccomendation years ago that scaffolds should be erected I think it was 750mm past the building that was to be worked on. Is that still in place?

600mm where practicable past end of building
