My First Point is Trainee Scaffolders And their limitations
According to CISRS they cannot work alone eaven if they have done their Part 1 and or their part 2 they are still trainee,s until they do their 1 day asessment but a non scaffolder who does a 5 day BASE Card Can build system(up to 6mtrs high) and modify it but my guys cant move hop ups unattended this is pure madness.

To be fair most people who use system scaffolding ( like bricklayers ) are retards, so it has to be retard proof. If you didn't know all there was to know about basic cuplock scaffolding after a 5 day course you really would be dim.

Tube and fitting scaffolds are far more specialised so you wouldn't want people altering them with out being really competent. Most trainees these days are pretty well trained and undergo good standards of training at the various centres, it still take 2 - 3 years to get your qualifications then a lifetime to learn the job . It only takes seconds to f*ck up and kill someone though.

Good point Russ. But how can you explain the countless UK scaffolders who say "I'm a tube and fitting man me I can't handle that system ***** like."?

Nothing wrong with ex bricklayers
Not much right with them either. Never met a bigger bunch of moaning tossers in my life. "We need the lift two courses down" "we have to have the forklift first", "we cant work in the wet"," its too hot !" "we need you to work around us so we don't loose a penny", "we cant be bothered to clean off the lift, you do it", "we need day work as the fork lift has a puncture", "we need a loading bay every 2 ft" "we need day work for writing out day work sheets", "My back hurts" "My wrists hurt" "These blocks are heavy" the list is endless they are multi story whinge bags or the highest magnitude.

Repent sinner ! throw down your trowel and pick up thy spanner. And he did and all was good in the world...There isn't a bricklayers forum is there ? they would want daywork for writing posts. What's to talk about "I placed one block on the top of another block, I did this a thousand times then I went home" that's not fun, its dull. You had a lucky escape SS

all im saying is whats the use of having trainee cards when they cant do simple jobs unsupervised remember im not talking about scaffolding the Blackpool tower or anything im talking about moving hop ups and such but they cant do it unsupervised when they have done their part 1 and part 2 and waiting for their 1 day asessment this is madness [/COLOR]my boss will no longer entertain employing any one without a scaffold card now when we always used to bring guys through their training it just isnt worth it i feel sorry for some people who are just starting on their careers now Has cisrs got it wrong???

just seems that all these people want to do is make money with all the crap that they keep throwing in our direction where does it end? come the revolution all health and safety men will be put up against the wall and shot for crimes against common sense

You cant blame your boss for not wanting people without cards. I've had to sit and fill in countless potfollios for various ungrateful scaffs, its a nightmare. Why put yourself through it when you can employ somebody who's already qualified. We have a 17 year old trainee at the moment, good lad cant pass his touch screen test, sent him on the cots course, he's done that now I cant even get him a trainee card as he needs the touch screen test !Endless paperwork and payments to various people, what's the point !

Totally agree Russ. I know of a scaffolders labourer that had his CSCS card and went on the Cots course but could not get his labouring card because his touch screen was done over 6 months ago. What a rip off when it's valid for 2 years anyway!

I have always advocated the old ticket system where there were no time limits - trainees are wot it sez on The tin. Eventually youd move up to ur pt1 & could stay on that for as long as it took to gain your experiance b4 being sent off on ur pt2, not this 18montbs bollockks then start all over again.the training centres are full of kids only 2years in -fully funded & going through their advanced to earn the new top wage of £180 aday....thats whats wrong wiv the system, their greed & ability to churn out so called qualified scaffs that cant even tie a rope onto a tube & ive seen em.- id rather have a trainees whos learnt his game then one thats learnt to play the system.

If I could thank your post multiple times, I would SP. Hit the nail right square in the head.

haha spot on... having come across lads from firms like SGB/Harsco, I came across some proper retards that talk a great job and then go play with cuplok... could name and shame a pair of retards on that firm that many people will know and agree...

Yeah ur rite mate bunch of regards system is the thing up here not our fault a lot of tube and fittings as well you can only play with what they give you lol
