Ive been asked to do a chimney coming out of a thatched roof. Whats your thoughts on saddling the roof as normal, or is it best not to touch the thatch.
Thanks Tony.

We have done them before and it makes a big difference if the thatch is old or new. Old thatch can sink.

put sheets of kingspan insulation under your saddle boards to spread the weight

In keeping with tradition, kick the job off in the living room and simply poke your standards through the roof giving you a working lift around the chimney. When stripping, gather some mud and twigs to fill the holes.
Job's a good 'un.

Depends on situation on chimney in relation to roof? Is it a ridge chimney? What is scaffold being used for? Chimney repairs? Liner?

I would love to put an input into this but the minute I reply to anything on here it just gets slated by all the professional people

Its for liner, its only a small cottage so ill beam over it.
Thanks for all your replies.
Dont let em grind you down guy. Your thoughts would have been welcomed here.
