okay. happy fakkin sunday my bank holiduay steel throwing warriors.

my and my mate are looking into courses to get us out there other than your average cisrs courses. im a part one and he is too. we want to get on the gas platforms, power stations or oil rigs. i know rigs and gas are semi gold dust acheivments and its all about links that you have. although with grain being a literal 10 min drive along with tilbury and dunge up the road it seems we have a slight advantage. whats the best courses to invest do you warriors think. and how easy is it to get a start after investing your hard earned money into it.

Ccnsg card joe...that will allow you to work on power stations, petrochems and poss nuclear site. But you'll still need security clearance for those. On most of this work ( blue book sites ), you may still need to have a minimum of a part 2 card, but im not 100% sure. Althou not essential an ipaf card, and slinger/banksman card may help as well, along with a pts and lucas card they'll help towards working within the railway and london underground.

Hope i've helped joe..all the best pal
Regards den..

yes mate that is helpful im gonna go for it n get my part two done by the end of the year but just looking forward....

Never got a cert card from the wench either, all in all costly investment but worth the experience.

Imho...

First and most important card is your FULL CISRS qualification.
Either Part 2 or Advanced, though you dont really need Advanced, it does give you an edge over Part 2 with employers.

Then, depending on where you wanna work? Railways, Underground, Powerstations, ect.

CCNSG Safety Passport for Powerstations, Oil Refineries and pretty much any other onshore industrial site. Though this only usually gets your foot in the door... additional security clearance might be needed.

PTS for all overland Railway jobs, nation wide, though again additional certs might be required for specialised works.

LUCAS for London Underground stations.

BESC for Substation work, which i havent done, but heard the money is decent.

and ofcourse;
BOSIET and MIST to work on offshore installations.

Dozens of other tickets are available, but firstly, id go my Part 2, as without this, you wont be considered for much of the better paying jobs, unless yoir either very lucky or a 'friend of a friend'.

besc a good one to have jason but money decent hmmm £120 -£140 with a paye firm with van but think the best payers on the besc jobs are agenceys but you dont get the van loads of weekend work involved when there busy the best thing with the grid work you dont kill yourself exspecially on the substations but over head line work looks like dog work stuck out of no where on a field. these besc jobs are good with a company van but no van your bang your millage up cos your all over the place

I did ohl work for dixons dico.. treated like a dog, ripped off with money and worked in the middle of no-where.. craap times. Didnt get chance to do the substations, did here there better..

there very busy at the moment and the grids spending millions on these substations but the ohl is dog work as you say scaffy substations are the best jobs and you dont kill yourself as your kill someone but the grids like most jobs your working whilst there busy and not when there quite but theve kept me going for 12 years on and off but the way there spending as of late may get a good run

I didnt relise capes did ohl and subs work pal, your a travelling man then?..do you go offshore with them...

capes have the national grid main contract mate they work directly for the grid. i dont do offshore but may as well do your all over the country lol!! ohl were not on that yet thank god leave it to the others leave most mornings at 5am for london and you can be anywhere iam up norfolk wensday so you get around not a bad job but like most jobs these days the monies have dropped

I have thought of going back on to grid work, but subs only. Its just finding a good outfit to work for..dont get me wrong dico i'll work my ass off , but at the same time i want paying right, which i understand is hard to find but if your work hard and keep your head down you should get looked after. Thats why i left dixons, tried paying me £550 notes for 7 x 12s on ohl.....wannkers

thats poor scaffy you got stung there mate you work the grid on a substation for 7 days for 8hrs you should be looking at £730- £800 take home clear funds on a paye basis 3 yrs ago you would bang £900- £950 but hee hoo things change 7 x 12 for £550 is criminal!! pro access always looking for besc scaffolders give them a shout mate

Yep I spoke to pro access at the start of the year but didn't have relevant cards think they paid quite well had a job in St. John's wood only round the corner from me I was we'll gutted !!!
