Im sure its a common problem with us scaffolders but would like to know how many of us suffer from back pains or sprains or back trouble caused by the job we do . I can remember the exact moment when i ****ed my back , i was working in Trowbridge on a hosing site and it had been raining for a couple of days and the whole site had turned into a messy mud pit anyway it was a friday and it was the last six boards to get to finish off the lift so like a idiot i went and got six boards in one go but as i got close to leaning them agaisnt the guardrail i stepped in i pile of thick sticky mud and when i went to pull my foot out i felt something in my lower back pop and i was well and truly ****ed for three weeks , ever since that its been a battle to get over it even with physio . When i see on you tube guys lifting vast amounts of gear it just makes me crindge . Got to protect your back guys its the only one you got!!!!!

I have suffered with a dodgy back for fifteen years now , try swimming it works for me but take the wife and kids or you get funny looks for some reason .

I have been at it since I was 15 (16 years) and have yet to suffer from it. Although My right shoulder give's me gip every once in a while

yep ,ive had bad back for twenty years, its sciatica, putting big lifts in dosent do it any good, after half hour on a milk crate,it starts twinging,on codeine phosphate pain killers now,one with brew in morning, another at din dins.got to get out of this job.

also got problems with my shoulders had one operation on my left now getting pain in my right

common place for most scaffs to have a f****d back. the body just aint designed for lumping about that much gear...if you consider that 30 long = around about a tonne .you are putting so much pressure on not only your back ,but the rest of your body. my knees just gave up on me a few years back and i toally f****d , off work for 7 months..doctors put it down to wear and tear because of scaffolding.both sets of knee ligaments just snapped.

done my back about 6 years ago working over in cardiff. done a right hard days graft and was packing up for the day and went to put my tools in one of those big metal tool boxes. went to pull the lid up and it was locked.pulled something in my back and even tho i had physio and treatment with a ciropractor back aint never been the same..

It's because someone has scraped the s off the front of his speedos.

I agree with that Paul I can remember the first time I done the back in, trying to lift a beam in the middle with 6 lifts on it(dont ask). I think when it goes it's never the same again however we do have a brilliant back cracker here who I see every month and she pops everything back in place and I'm like a teenager again. I would love to send all the boy's but a bit unsure of the implications, as they say if you do it right it shouldn't be sore, but I reckon who ever wrote that never shifted a load of steel in their life. Alway's thought of calling it health surveilance but not sure.
