Right lads what's the thoughts on the apprentices comin into the game these days? My opinion, little gay boys! 😡 screamin for pay rises but there shoulders baby soft, two weeks in there buyin spanners before they know how to read the feckin job but wow betide you if you "gently" guide them to the fact that tjey are there solely to feed you gear for at least 6 months!! If you so much as raise your voice at the little pricks there running to the office claiming your a bully! **** me if I got it wrong on the ground it rained mills 90s for the rest of my shift 😂😂

I agree wayne, these newbies are more intrested in their phones and their pocsey quif hairdo's. It wasn't just mills 90's that come raining down.
when i first started their was two of us that started as labs, the one made the mistake of sending two buckets of swivels up 8 lifts. The oldboy chargehard screamed like a banshy down at the youngster and then was followed with a bottle of **** launched at him.
The lads nowadays just want everything for free and give out back..

Talking of gays !! Nice to see jedwood is back

A real scaffolder would take charge of the apprentice but still listen to what they had to say. Most experienced scaffolders I've met tend to concentrate on their own experiences and can sometimes forget the legislative side of things. The apprentices may have very little experience, but they do have access to the very latest legislation and guidance.

It's just the cycle of life.

IMK,
A cycle of life is you learn from your parents/teachers/piers then pass this down to the next generation, nobody employs/pays the real Scaffolder to teach you its up to the apprentice to master his trade from him and in return he may gain a skill for life.

You will learn legislation and guidance from your local training centre but you will not learn to Scaffold in 2xwks 2xtimes a year there this will be gained via what you refer to as the real Scaffolder but only if the apprentice is willing to learn.

I agree with some of what you say. I have also met many an experienced scaff who can assume responsibility, make allowances for the exuberance of youth, pass on his vast knowledge to allow ayoungster to progress in life.

We can't all be the same, just an opinion.

ImK,

I would be interested to read what bits you don't agree with, any Scaffolder who knows he has a good lad with him will give as much help as he can but when this lad knows or think he knows better will be left out in the cold.

It all boils done to the young fellas attitude if he wants to learn he will ask questions and take an interest in what is going on .
My first apprentice has 17 years under his belt now and still works with me and has turned out to be a good scaffolder .
A couple got their tickets and fu cked of but are still in the game.
But the rest where just a waste of time and energy always arguing they new more then everyone else , late every day , lazy , always on the phone.
Iam now training my last apprentice which is my 22 year old son and he has 6 years done on the tools and is working with my first lad which really is nice to watch him being taught by someone I taught .
There is good lads out there still but you gotta kiss a lot of frogs to find the prince.

its a great pleasure to see someone you shouted at and gave dogs abuse to finally click and turn out a good yin.
i had a maye i took out with me after a few minor issues he got the bug and is one of the best wee grafters going.
I personally wouldnt let anyone in my Squad bring the phone out the car, teatime and dinner is ample time.;)

I didnt have the balls to go to the management simply for the stick I would have got by scaffs if word got out. My name would have been crap all around the manor. If I got a bollocking by the charge-hands then I just took it on the jaw and learned my lesson. I always said that if there is something that you dont agree with if you are an apprentice, dont rubbish it, just put the method in storage as the method might be useful on another job.;)
