get yourself over mate, brilliant place, traffic is horrendous mind, really hot and humid, safe as can be there, but you will need a damn good salary to live on.
Hi mate, yes i have just spent 8 years in Dubai, i guess i had the best of those years, but you should know by now that its all gone tits up, and as far as i know its not getting any better.
Weather is incrediblly hot and humid summer months, cost of living is very expensive, schooling for the kids will cost you at least 2000pounds per term for each. driving is a nightmare, they (Dubai) probably has one of the highest road fatality rates in the world.
Only good thing at this time is rents for apartments and villas have dropped by about 25% but you would still be looking at paying around about 2,000 pounds per month to rent a decent place. if you have not got all these expences covered in your contract offer, forget it.
.Hey, Dubai is fab........Is ******* roasting hot most of the time, and as somebody else said you need some dough to live there. All schools are private, and most start early and finish at 13.30 !!
Untill you get a residency permit you cant buy alcohol for your house, and can only drink in hotel bars......but there are ways and means, and the bars are good !!! But during Ramadan and Ede everywhere is dry !!
But its a great place to be.........and if you dont want to take the job, let me know, as i would go tomorrow !! I have had my NEBOSH and have been involved with Scaffolding 22 years......
Cheers
Nick

Cheers for all your replies
I'm trying to get the schooling expenses tied into the contract other than that I think I have everything else covered. I know Dubai is going tits up but ABB are a reputable company so should be ok on that front and lets face it the uk's going tits up and were all still having to pay taxes and get nothing in return.
Ian, Snap their hands off as you wont get that kind of cash here, they are all over the world and i have a mate earning 80k in Abu Dhabi. Once you have been they will always have you in other areas as you know the culture.
