Hi Guys, I'm new to the forum and know very little of the scaffolding industry, but im very keen to learn more.

I'm 19 and i've recently joined the sales team at a signs and labels manufacturing company and the team are eager to develop it's range of scaffolding saftey tags to take on the brand leaders.

I'd love to here what you like or dislike about the products already on the market. Any advice will be much appreciated...

Hello and welcome,Think tags should be alot bigger and more noticable also with some kind of secure fixing on the actual tag itself.;)

Welcome to the Forum Tom

As regards tags,

The ones on the market at present are overpriced and difficult to write on when wet or damp,if they were larger with an improved fixing method this would be a selling point

Hi tom. Agree with others, tags too expensive, holders too fragile.

welcome mate scaff tag rule

haha thanks for your comment dave, so you wouldn't welcome any changes to the scafftag at all?

Hi lads, thanks for all the useful input and welcoming me to the site!

So from the responses so far, if someone could make a safety tag & holder that would be really difficult to break for at least 30% less than the current market prices, do you reckon that would have mileage?

What if a tag could be manufactured that didn’t require a holder? Maybe one that had the hole in the tag itself? This wouldn’t stop the tag from getting wet of course! How big a problem is that? Can they be wiped?

The ink not adhering to the tag is in my experience a major ball ache
Some of the sites I inspect can have over 30 scaffolds to inspect and tag
I have to wipe each one with paper towel or similar to obtain a perfectly dry surface, one drip off the scaffold or further rain hitting the surface puts me back to square one.You have to sign the tag in an horizontal position (the tag not me ) normally exposed to the elements.

I know the technolgy is out there as I am also a diver and use underwater slates and pens for making notes on certain dives.

Make yourself a fortune and cheer up an old scaff at the same time :D

Thanks for your very useful input Rigger.

I suppose the problem is that these tags need to be durable (and waterproof because they’re used outside) so that’s why they’ve historically been made out of plastic, but plastic requires special inks to write on them and unfortunately these inks don’t work when the tags are wet!

I’ve tried to source “waterproof pens” and can certainly get them though they are not cheap! We would need to retail them for around £15 per pen (until I can get the price down based on buying in bulk). Do you think the problem is serious enough to justify people paying such a price for a pen?

What if the tag holder was a sealed wallet that was both waterproof and UV resistant? This would keep the tag dry while in use but presumably it would still get wet when you needed to write on it?

Appreciate your input Rigger, thanks

would consider what ever product you make would need to be a similar idea to the market leaders , we have in the past looked at the paper versions and there is to many bits and too fiddley

I really appreciate all the great feedback and suggestions you've all made.

We've developed what we believe to be a great alternative to scafftag holders and inserts.

If anyone is interested in receiving some free samples please PM me!

Could you post pictures of the new product, please?
