Man, 70, hurt in Burton Stone Lane scaffolding fall
6:25pm Monday 18th June 2012 in News By Jennifer Bell, jennifer.bell@thepress.co.uk

A 70-YEAR-OLD man is in hospital with serious head injuries after falling from scaffolding in York today.

The man, who has not been named, fell from the top of a two-storey terraced building in Burton Stone Lane at about 12.10pm.

His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening and The Press understands he has been communicating with doctors.

North Yorkshire Police confirmed they had attended the scene after receiving a call from a member of the public. Officers remained at the site, owned by Associated Insurance Services, this evening.

A spokesman for the force said the matter has now been passed to the Health and Safety Executive.

He said officers were called at 12.10pm and said: “On arrival they found a 70-year-old man with serious injuries. The full extent of the injuries is not yet known. The injuries are not being treated as suspicious and no-one else is being sought in connection with the incident.”

A HSE spokesman confirmed they had been informed about the matter and said they were now making enquiries as to how the accident happened.

A spokesman for Brian Farrell Scaffolding, the company in charge of reconstruction the site, declined to comment about the incident but confirmed the man’s family had been informed.

Just for the record. The chap involved was using a ladder that was a rickety old thing and this is what he fell from. The spokesman above had no involvement with the scaffolding firm so quite rightly declined to comment. Best wishes to the chap and his family.

I certainly hope I'm not up an old rickety ladder at 60 let alone 70. Speedy recovery matey.
