Just a note, I had to sign back into the forum today, any regular forum members who were requested to do the same and just viewed the topics would show as a guest. This also happened on a previous occasion

Neil mate
sometimes that happens, more so if you share a PC or clear history , i have had to login only a couple of times for this reason. However m8 there are still a lot of Guests browsing the SF.

Hi Guys

Guests are made up of

  • People checking the forum out before joining
  • Members who are not currently logged in (as Paddy said, if you clear your cookies or run a disk cleanup or virus scan etc.)
  • Other people monitoring forum activity
  • Search Engine Spiders
The majority of the guests are Search Engine Spiders and people checking out the forum for the first time as I can tell by the IP addresses. For example their are currently 9 guests on the site - 4 of them are Search Engine Spiders.

Hi Admin,

I have auto log in on so I can't remember, but is this a forum that limits the number of posts you view unless you join and log in? There are some tradesman forums (boo hiss that I won't mention) that do that and as a potential punter, I think it's not a good idea.

Personally, I don't like it as sometimes I just like to look - call me a voyeur! I may be after advice that has been asked before and the answer is there, if I could only see it!

Obviously if you want to contribute to a thread or ask questions, you have to join etc.

Hi Rosie

That was the main reason for installing this feature. Too many people were lurking on the forum without contributing to the forum. For example, Why should non members have the same access to Jobs and Information as Members who have contributed 50+ posts etc?

It was something that I had planned to do for a long time and a lot of the main guys on here requested this feature (although I can't find the thread)

Since installing the feature, new signups increased massively!

Hi Admin,

Yes I can totally see why you have it set that way and I take your point regarding the jobs section. :)
