whats the best pick up in your opinion ,"do you come here often " doesnt count before ya start .

A lot of good ones about now especially the sprinter but for me I would agree with Gerscaff, you can't beat a transit for the simple reason the parts are common and therefore cheap. Which ever you go for make sure it's not all electronic or you are going to have problems.
 
what is a 3.5 ton pickup ? arnt you talking flat beds ...
what pay load can a 3.5 ton carry 1.5 ? or more

who cares about price of merc spare parts when they dont break down anyway , if transits had skin it wouldnt graft

In my experience everything breaks down at some time or another, even the servicing costs are always a factor when I buy anything. I never really look till maybe the end of year accounts but I would say motor expenses is one of our biggest liabilities.
