how come agencys are the 1's that seem to be advertiseing work and not scaffold companies?

It's cheaper to hire or buy the gear yourself then bring in an agency that can pick up as many men as you need then drop them at the earliest oppertunity. Nobody gives a f**k about sustainability or wether it's good jobs for the scaffs or if it's 2 or 3 days a week. Agency's always thrive in a recession, that's why most of them get a bad rep.

Think a lot of firms use agencies to avoid holiday pay and all that , also 30 day invoices ect

Have to agree with Scaffy, I think during this recession a lot of firms have got rid, made redundant,laid off a lot of lads because of a lack of work, the lads in turn apply for agency work out of desperation, now things have started to pick up and the scaffold firms are short of men ,into the breach come the agency lads, after a while the balance is usualy restored and the agency's are left with lads that can't get work anywhere else.

Thats what I found anyway, we asked an agency lad on one of our sites when I worked for Palmers to cut through a tube for a loading bay leg and he started to saw away at the tube with a bow saw, the agency were charging £120 per day for what they described as a grade a scaffolder !!!!!

ha ha how far did he get with the bow saw, i heard of a lad that tryed to bump start a still saw heard it was fun to watch, im 31 bin advanced for 6 years also the charge hand did ma safety passport early this year because a wanted to start working on power stations an refinerys applyed 4 loads this year so far not got on any of em thought about doing it via agency but i live in cumbria but would travel , but them agencys can get rid of ya at the drop of a hat to risky

Thats why companys like them Steve, no employment rules, no holiday pay, no unions, therefore no rights.

Less aggro for the scaff companys to use an agency for all the given reasons stated,truth of the matter is nobody is willing to commit themselves during the recent hard times,,think the term is used and abused..
