£6.4 million project to be outlined

Published on Tuesday 6 March 2012 16:45

Details of a £6.4m project to strengthen and refurbish Dinting viaduct is to be outlined at an event next week.

Network Rail and Taziker Industries are holding a drop-in event at Dinting C of E Primary School, Dinting Vale, from 7pm to 9pm, on Wednesday March 14 to talk about the work and how it might effect local residents.

Built in 1842, the viaduct carries the Manchester to Hadfield/Glossop electrified railway over Dinting Brook and the A57 road between Manchester and Sheffield.

The work, set to take up to 18 months to complete, will involve strengthening the lattice and box girders, installing new bearings and repairs to steel, brickwork and masonry.

Two special staircases will be constructed so workers can get onto scaffolding suspended beneath the viaduct from where they will work.

The scaffolding will be encapsulated to prevent contamination of the brook, road and surrounding environment.

When all the refurbishment work is completed, the viaduct will be painted olive green to blend in with the area.
